AYSDN Launches the First Session of the Training Program “Empowering Youth in Climate Action and Green Innovation”
Online – Saturday, June 28, 2025
As part of its continued efforts to strengthen youth engagement in climate challenges, the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network (AYSDN) launched the first session of its regional training program, “Empowering Youth in Climate Action and Green Innovation,” on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in a virtual event held via Zoom, with the participation of over 185 youth from across the Arab region.
The opening session, titled “Climate Change and Climate Action,” was presented by climate expert Dr. Fawaz Bahmeesh, who explored key climate science concepts, including the differences between weather and climate, and hurricanes and storms — distinctions essential for sound environmental understanding and policy development.
Dr. Bahmeesh also reviewed major global climate disasters, including Hurricane Katrina, and highlighted regional threats such as Aden, Yemen, which ranks among the top six cities globally at risk of submersion due to rising sea levels.
The session witnessed high engagement from participants, who expressed appreciation for the content and enthusiasm for future sessions, with a commitment to applying their knowledge within their communities.
This program is a key component of AYSDN’s strategy to raise environmental awareness and empower Arab youth to lead climate action efforts, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13: Climate Action).
