To meet this demand, AYSDN recently embarked on a focused capacity-building journey, participating in the “Communicating in the Digital Age – Practical Tools for Storytelling and Visibility” training session, hosted by the Youth Climate Justice Fund (YCJF).
The session was not merely a lecture but an intensive exploration into the mechanics of modern advocacy. It began by laying bare the key challenges that often silence important voices in the crowded digital environment. Participants, including representatives from AYSDN, engaged in a foundational exercise: learning to differentiate between a simple story and a complex novel, understanding that each form has a distinct purpose and optimal use in advocacy. This distinction is crucial for crafting messages that resonate instantly and drive action.
The heart of the training focused on the practical tools and techniques required to build a powerful narrative specifically for social media platforms. The digital landscape demands brevity, authenticity, and strategic placement—lessons that were absorbed through detailed examples and hands-on guidance.
However, the most transformative segment of the workshop was the deep dive into Strategic Communications. The training meticulously explained how strategy is not a separate layer, but the very foundation upon which effective storytelling must be built. The session culminated in the presentation of practical models and templates, offering AYSDN a standardized framework for organizing and delivering their critical messages consistently.
As noted in the internal report prepared by AYSDN’s representative, Fahmy Saleh Aya, the workshop
successfully covered all planned topics, leaving attendees with a clear, actionable roadmap. The knowledge gained represents a significant step forward for AYSDN, empowering the network to transform its digital
presence from simply communicating to strategically influencing.
