Youth-Led Conversation on the Future of Agrifood Systems

#YouthLead Dialogue Celebrates International Youth Day with a Youth-Led Conversation on the Future of Agrifood Systems

As part of International Youth Day celebrations, a virtual dialogue was held via Zoom under the theme: “The Future of Agrifood Systems: A Youth-Led Vision from the Near East and North Africa Region.” The event, held on the evening of 14 August, brought together over 130 participants from across the region, engaging young people passionate about sustainable agricultural transformation.

Delivering the keynote remarks, Mr. Tareq Hassan, Head of the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network, highlighted the importance of turning youth recommendations into concrete action to build a fair and inclusive agricultural future. He stated, “The voices and recommendations of young people are not only heard — they are the heartbeat of transformation in food systems,” emphasizing the vital role of youth in shaping food and agriculture policies.

The dialogue focused on four main themes:

1. Youth priorities in transforming agrifood systems.

2. Breaking down barriers to youth and women’s participation.

3. Successful youth-led initiatives that deserve support.

4. Envisioning a just and inclusive agricultural future.

After the opening session, participants joined breakout rooms to engage in rich discussions around key questions. This dialogue is part of a broader network of youth-led conversations aimed at giving young people an influential voice in agrifood policy and decision-making.

The event concluded with participants calling for stronger youth involvement in guiding policies and programs related to food systems. All attendees expressed their commitment to advancing tangible initiatives and maintaining ongoing dialogue that contributes to a more sustainable and equitable agricultural future.
