The Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network Participates in a webinar on COP29 and Its Impact on Climate Justice in the Middle East and North Africa
On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network (AYSDN) participated in an online seminar titled “Reflections on COP29: How Will the Conference Outcomes Impact Climate Justice in the MENA Region?” organized by Oxfam. The seminar featured a panel of climate experts, including:
▶ Safaa El-Jiouci – Head of Global Climate at Oxfam International
▶ Pierre Saadeh – Regional Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa at Publish What You Pay
▶ Ahmed El-Droubi – Representative from the Climate Action Network (CAN)
The seminar was attended by more than 43 participants from various Arab countries. Discussions focused on climate justice and the collective effort required to create a better future—one that cannot be achieved without substantial financial contributions from the countries most responsible for environmental damage.
The experts examined the outcomes of COP29 and their impact on the MENA region, particularly on marginalized communities. The conversation also explored future strategies to achieve feminist climate justice in the region based on the conference’s results.
The webinar concluded by emphasizing the crucial role of Arab participation in climate discussions and solutions. Effective regional cooperation is essential to advancing climate justice, addressing the needs of vulnerable communities, and mitigating the impacts of climate change, ultimately contributing to a more sustainable future for all.
