AYSDN participates in the Second Arab Forum for Equality in Beirut

On Tuesday, June 6, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) started the activities of the Second Arab Sustainable Development Forum for the year 2023 at the United Nations House in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, to mobilize action during this period for the sustainable development goals (SDGs) that world leaders agreed to achieve by the year 2030. This year’s forum carried the slogan “One Voice… Equality in Food Security.”

The international event was attended by a number of high-level figures, including leaders, ministers, experts, and representatives of civil society organizations. The Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network (AYSDN) was one of the participants in the forum’s activities, represented by its president, Mr. Tariq Hassan. This participation came out of the network’s keenness to achieve the goals of sustainable development, of which eliminating on poverty and supporting equality are the most prominent of these goals.

The forum discussed the importance of equality in food security in the Arab region and the extent to which this reflects on societies, a third of which suffer from food insecurity while a third also suffer from obesity. The talks touched on the impact of equality in creating peaceful, just and inclusive societies.
