Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network Organizes Arab Youth Dialogue on International Youth Day 2026

“Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” Brings Together Young People from Arab Countries to Discuss Youth Participation and Sustainable Development

On the occasion of International Youth Day 2026, the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network (AYSDN) organized an Arab youth dialogue session on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” The online session brought together a diverse group of young people and youth leaders from several Arab countries via Zoom.

The event highlighted the realities of Arab youth and the diversity of the contexts in which they live, while focusing on the common challenges and aspirations that unite young people despite differences in their social, economic, and political environments. Key areas discussed included quality education, decent work, meaningful participation in decision-making, security and dignity, sustainability, the green economy, and technology.

The session featured youth speakers from Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, and Jordan, who engaged in an interactive dialogue on the role of young people in driving change and advancing sustainable development. The discussion moved beyond local challenges to explore shared opportunities and solutions that could be adapted and scaled at the regional level.

The discussions addressed several key themes, including the role of the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network in building youth capacities, expanding opportunities and horizons, and connecting young people with international opportunities, expertise, and partnerships. Participants also emphasized the importance of moving beyond simply listening to young people’s voices toward ensuring their meaningful and effective participation in decision-making processes.

Participants further discussed the importance of moving youth-led initiatives from the local level toward greater impact and policy influence, as well as the potential of the green economy and emerging technologies to create employment opportunities, foster innovation, and transform young people’s potential into tangible impact that contributes to a more sustainable future.

The dialogue reaffirmed that the different circumstances and contexts in which young people across the Arab region live do not diminish their shared aspirations. Rather, this diversity represents an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, cooperation, and the exchange of experiences and solutions among Arab youth, while creating regional spaces that enable young people to participate more effectively in issues shaping their future.

In this context, the event aimed to showcase the diversity of Arab youth experiences, identify areas of convergence and divergence across different contexts, and strengthen the transition from tokenistic participation toward meaningful and impactful youth engagement. It also sought to highlight youth-led initiatives and local solutions with the potential to be scaled and replicated across the region.

The event forms part of the ongoing efforts of the Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network to strengthen the role and visibility of Arab youth in sustainable development processes, provide platforms for dialogue, capacity building, and networking, and connect young people with opportunities and partnerships that enable them to move from being beneficiaries of development programmes to becoming active partners and agents of change.

The Network will document the outcomes of the dialogue and prepare a brief highlighting the key challenges, common areas of convergence, and youth recommendations emerging from the session. The Network also plans to share the event recording and develop interactive media content to expand its reach and engage a wider audience of young people across the Arab region.

The Arab Youth Sustainable Development Network reaffirmed that investing in young people, ensuring their meaningful participation in decision-making, and creating opportunities for innovation and leadership are fundamental to building a more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Arab future.
